Representatives from the Bahamas Co-operative League Limited Board of Directors paid a courtesy call on Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources,The Honourable Larry S. Cartwright on Wednesday August 20, 2008. The group discussed the development of the Co-operative Sector and Minister Cartwright was updated on upcoming events.

The Bahamas Co-operative League Ltd is the apex body for co-operatives in The Bahamas.

The Co-operative sector, which includes Credit Unions and Producer Supplier Co-operatives was recently added to the portfolio of the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources. The Department of Co-operative Development, headed by Director of Societies, Mr. Nathaniel has responsibility for the regulation of Co-operatives in the country.

Mrs. Cheryl Bowe-Moss, BCLL President indicated that the credit union movement and the Ministry would be working as a “team” to develop the Producer / Supplier and Financial Co-operatives. Mrs. Bowe-Moss went to state that “Bahamians are very receptive to co-operatives”, now that they are learning of the benefits.
